About Brenda Arkley.
I was born in the North East of England, in Sunderland Tyne and Wear. All my life I have loved colour and as a child was never happier than with a colouring book and pencils but my painting didn't begin until I left work to have my first daughter. Watching TV one day I came across an American artist painting oils with a pallet knife and I was hooked, that was 45 years ago and I have hardly stopped since. But saying this, the greatest change in my work has been in the last year when I found an amazing and inspirational teacher, his name is Jamel Akib and it is to his class I go every week now.
So, my work continues to develop/evolve and I have no idea where it will take me, but I am so excited I can barely drag myself away from my tiny art room and hope you like what I produce. If you wish to purchase any of my work then please contact me. Some of my paintings are reproduced into greetings cards, also for sale and I am happy to consider commissions.
I am also proud to say I have self-published a children's' book called Nanny B's Magic Hat. It is suitable for readers of 7 years upwards but also for adults to read to younger ages. It is a collection of short stories about me, Nanny B, who has a magic hat which enables me to travel to Canada to visit my grand daughter Freya. Together we have magical adventures with her dog Riggs, a mysterious Grandfather and animals who can talk. It is beautifully illustrated by Heather Robertson and also for sale. It has been very popular and I was delighted to read from it in a local school and The Hawk Conservancy.
Please contact me if you have any queries or are interested in purchasing any of my work. Thank you for looking at my website and I hope you like my work.
